Default Cyprus stray and abandoned cats and dogs

Beware the growing sad plight of stray and abandoned animals in Cyprus.
In November 2009 one of the few yet crucial places of sanctuary which offered care, veterinary treatment and sterilisation the Argos Cat and dog sanctuary was under threat of imminent closure, it is situated in Xylofagou and Ormidhia villages.

This sanctuary where voluntary workers have worked tirelessly to aid and assist the sad plight of many hundreds of stray animals is facing a huge financial crisis and is close to being forced to close down.
This news is devastating, the shelter has given sanctuary to many rejected strays of Cyprus and the present provision in the country is already totally inadequate.

The government of Cyprus has systematically refused to correctly fund the necessary care and wellbeing of her stray animals and has failed to honour even the pathetically low commitment made in previous years. They have made no contribution at all for the past two years.
In place of this government’s lack of responsibility, animal organisations have taken it upon themselves to care for these animals. These small groups of caring people raise monies themselves but still rely heavily on contributions and donations.
If you are planning a holiday this year in Cyprus, please think of the strays and companion dogs and cats which are systematically poisoned pre tourist seasons and again when the tourists leave.............this is the reality of Greece’s animal population control. Terrible agonising death with poison baited food which the needy animals take with trust.
Whilst there please give a donation to the animal organisations, closure threats to the only care facilities which these animals have is devastating.

THANK YOU
